A shelf built on patience.

Each of Steph’s novels is a small world, drawn with restraint and uncommon empathy. Begin anywhere — they are all doorways to the same country.

02 — About

She writes like
she’s listening.

Elena Marlowe was born in Lisbon and raised between Portugal and Northern California. She holds an MFA from the Iowa Writers’ Workshop and has taught fiction at Stanford, Sarah Lawrence, and the Bread Loaf Writers’ Conference.

Her novels have been translated into twenty-seven languages and shortlisted for the Booker Prize, the Women’s Prize for Fiction, and the National Book Critics Circle Award.

— always with love, Steph

03 — Praise

“Marlowe belongs to a rare tradition of writers who understand that the most important sentences are the ones a lesser author would leave out.”
